Notes: TTV is a nonpathogenic virus whose replication directly reflects the degree of therapeutic immunosuppression. The main objective of the project is to validate the real-time PCR method for detecting TTV DNA in our laboratory setting and to establish reference kinetic curves for viral load after transplantation. In a pilot cohort of patients, we will correlate TTV levels with the incidence of acute graft rejection (at low viral levels), opportunistic infections, or drug toxicity (at high viral levels), and compare these findings with a control group with normal biopsy findings and no infectious complications

Notes: The study will compare baseline kidney biopsies from a single donor and compare graft function in the recipients of these kidneys. The goal will be to identify donor, organ procurement, and logistical parameters, as well as the factors that determine differences in graft function—the so-called “mate-kidneys.” This will be a multicenter study involving other kidney transplant centers in Slovakia, from which we will obtain the relevant data on the paired kidneys of our recipients.
