For participation in the clinical placements, a white coat and a stethoscope are required. Students are also reminded of the obligation to wear their student ID card visibly at all times during classes. The changing room is located on the 3rd floor of the annexe building (one floor above the department's office). Access to the changing room is provided via the ISIC chip card.

 

CONDITIONS FOR AWARDING CREDIT FOR THE 3TH YEAR

1. MANDATORY ATTENDANCE AT A MINIMUM OF 12 PRACTICAL EXERCISES

   a) Every student is required to attend the practical exercise ONLY on the day specified in the schedule according to their study group. If a student needs to attend a practical exercise on a day other than the scheduled one, they may do so only after prior agreement and approval by the instructor on the day of the exercise (absence from practical exercises must be excused).

   b) The student MUST BE FAMILIAR WITH THE TOPIC AND ISSUES OF THE CURRENT PRACTICAL EXERCISE; their knowledge may be tested orally or in writing at the beginning of the exercise.

   c) 3 or more ABSENCES MUST BE MADE UP DURING THE 14TH WEEK (maximum of 2 practical exercises per day). The form of compensation will be determined by the course guarantor/supervisor.

2. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF 2 CREDIT TESTS (minimum 60% success rate in each test)

   a) The tests consist of 20 questions with 4 options and 1 correct answer. The test content will cover the topics lectured on and the recommended literature.

   b) Testing will take place on the specified date according to the schedule and will be conducted in person.

   c) If a student does not achieve at least 60% on the 2 tests, they have the right to 2 retake attempts for the test after agreement with the responsible supervisor.

3. TO OBTAIN CREDIT, IT IS ALSO NECESSARY TO PREPARE A PATIENT CASE REPORT DURING THE WEEK ASSIGNED IN THE SCHEDULE OF PRACTICAL EXERCISES. The credit case report must be completed during the week specified in the schedule of practical exercises.

Subject Assessment: If the semester ends with an exam (3rd-year summer semester and 5th-year summer semester), the student must meet all the listed conditions to be allowed to take the exam, and the final assessment will be given on the day of the exam. If the semester does not end with an exam, the student is assessed based on the total score of the test after fulfilling all conditions.

- 20 - 19 points: 100 - 95% = A

- 18 - 17 points: 94 - 85% = B

- 16 - 15 points: 84 - 75% = C

- 14 - 13 points: 74 - 65% = D

- 12 points: 64 - 60% = E

- Less than 12 points: Less than 60% = Fx

FINAL EVALUATION

- 40 - 38 points = A

- 37 - 34 points = B

- 33 - 30 points = C

- 29 - 26 points = D

- 25 - 24 points = E

- Less than 24 points = Fx

In accordance with Article 11 of the Study Regulations of the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine (JFMED CU), each subject is assessed according to the above scale.

CONDITIONS FOR AWARDING CREDIT FOR THE 6TH YEAR

Improvement of practical skills and mastery of the complete diagnostic-therapeutic management of hospitalized patients. Students work as junior secondary doctors under the professional supervision of physicians. The students work for 9 weeks, during which, in addition to their time at the 1st Clinic of Internal Medicine of the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine (JFMED CU) and the Clinic of Gastroenterological Internal Medicine, they also work at the Clinic of Pneumology and Phthisiology, the Clinic of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology, the Department of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, and in intensive care units.

Pre-state exam internship in internal departments of medical facilities

Within the framework of the pre-state exam block internship, the student performs practical activity under the guidance of the attending physician in the scope of the secondary physician's duties, namely in the scope of:

  • 5 weeks in a standard internal medicine department,
  • 1 week in an intensive care unit.

 During the stay in the internal medicine department and ICU, the student performs the following medical procedures under the supervision of the attending physician:

  • Bedside visit of patients, management of medical records, proposal of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, participation in conciliar examinations.
  • Visit with the head of the department.
  • Initial admission assessment of the patient and writing the admission report.
  • Discharge of the patient and writing of the discharge report.
  • Vital measurements (pulse, blood pressure, pulse oximetry assessment of the patients' objective condition.
  • Blood and biological material sampling.
  • Independent assessment of the results of laboratory examinations and auxiliary examinations.
  • Independent assessment of ECG findings.
  • Independent assessment of X-ray findings, including chest X-ray, native abdominal imagining and assessment of contrast findings of the digestive tract and uropoietic system.
  • Assisting with abdominal and cardiac ultrasound examinations.
  • Assisting with endoscopic examinations of the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Assisting with puncture of ascites and pleura, as well as liver, kidney and bone marrow.
  • Inserting a gastric or duodenal probe.
  • Bladder catheterization.
  • The rectal examination.
  • Administration of IV or infusion therapy – under medical supervision.
  • Assistance with transfusion of blood products.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, defibrillation.

Furthermore, the student completes a 1-week internship at:

  • the clinic of haematology and blood transfusion,
  • the clinic of tuberculosis and respiratory diseases,
  • the clinic of occupational medicine and toxicology.

STATE RIGOROUS EXAM

The State Rigorosum Examination consists of two parts: a practical examination (patient case history) and a theoretical part (2 theoretical questions).

Practical part of the State Examination:

At one of the designated teaching departments of the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University (1st Department of Internal Medicine, Department of Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine, Department of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology, Department of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases, Department of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine), the student carries out the practical part according to the instructions of the responsible teaching staff. The practical part is usually conducted the day before the theoretical part takes place. It consists of a complete patient examination and preparation of a case history, including medical history taking, physical examination, differential diagnosis, proposal of laboratory and imaging investigations, and treatment plan.

Theoretical part of the State Examination:

This is conducted at the respective department (1st Department of Internal Medicine, Department of Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine) before the State Examination Committee. From the designated subject areas, the student draws two theoretical questions out of six areas (A-F: cardiology, pneumology, gastroenterology, nephrology, occupational medicine, toxicology, diabetology, endocrinology, hematology, rheumatology, infectology).
