University Hospital Martin Operates on the Latest Generation of Robotic Systems, Da Vinci Xi
The University Hospital Martin, as the first hospital in Slovakia, operates on the latest, fourth generation of robotic systems, the Da Vinci Xi. The surgical system is designed to assist surgeons in performing minimally invasive surgeries. It provides the operators with high-resolution 3D vision, magnified view, and robotic and computer assistance. The University Hospital Martin has already performed more than 20 surgeries using this state-of-the-art technology.
The Da Vinci system brings several benefits to patients. "The greatest advantage of these surgeries is better postoperative recovery, which also results in shorter hospitalization. Patients have shown a great interest in this type of surgery. Currently, we use it in surgical, gynecological, and urological procedures," informed MUDr. Ivan Kocan, the director of the University Hospital Martin. He added that additional specializations will gradually be added to utilize the Da Vinci system for surgeries.
Surgeons use specialized equipment when working with the robotic system, including a miniaturized surgical camera and instruments such as scissors, scalpels, and forceps, designed to aid in precise guidance during surgical procedures deep inside the patient's body. The latest generation Da Vinci Xi, used by the University Hospital Martin, offers more tools, features, and digital support.
The introduction of the Da Vinci robotic system into practice at the University Hospital Martin was made possible through collaboration with the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Martin. The system was presented to the public at the faculty in November of last year and subsequently transferred to the University Hospital Martin.
"Jessenius Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Martin has embarked on a new phase in the educational and scientific research process and in the provision of healthcare services at the University Hospital Martin," concluded Prof. MUDr. Ján Švihra, Vice Dean of the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine for further healthcare education.
