Emergency Safety Guidelines

At our university, your safety is our priority. Please familiarize yourself with the following emergency instructions. They provide clear steps on how to act in case of danger – whether it is evacuation, invacuation, or facing an aggressor. Following these guidelines can help protect your life and the lives of others.

Safety Instructions

Monitor Your Surroundings

  • If you notice anything dangerous, contact university staff (teachers, janitors, event organizers).

  • Be on the lookout for suspicious persons, objects, or unusual situations (open doors or windows that are usually closed, broken objects, smoke, odour, etc.).

  • In case of danger, make a quick decision to either exit the building (evacuation) or hide indoors (invacuation).

Evacuation (leaving the building)

  1. Keep calm and rational. Act quickly, but don’t run. Don’t panic.
  2. Take only the most important belongings.

  3. Don’t waste time and don’t return for other items.

  4. Avoid lifts, use the stairs.

  5. Help people with disabilities.

  6. Warn others as you go. Once outside, report colleagues who stayed indoors.

  7. Do not gather in parking lots.

  8. Do not remain in the area – walk away to a safe distance.

  9. Follow the instructions of staff and the police.

  10. Monitor university social networks and email.

Aggressor

If you notice an aggressive person with a gun, follow these three rules:

  1. If possible – RUN AWAY

  2. If you can’t run away – HIDE

  3. If you can’t hide – FIGHT (with whatever you have at hand).

Human lives are the priority: first protect yourself and others. Protecting property is secondary.

Invacuation (seeking shelter indoors)

If invacuation is necessary (e.g., an armed person is in the corridor), go to areas marked with the shelter symbol – they can be locked from the inside.

  1. Go inside, lock the door, and barricade it.

  2. Stay quiet and put your phone in silent mode.

  3. Do not leave your hiding place until instructed to do so by the authorities.
