Global Tobacco Surveillance System

The program of global monitoring of tobaco use in selected target groups was developed by the Tobacco Free Initiative (TFI), World Health Organization (WHO) and the Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in collaboration with a range of countries representing the six WHO regions.
The program provides comprehensive tobacco prevention and control information. Besides monitoring of the tobacco use end related factors, it focuses particularly on effects of tobacco mcontrol measures as well as social aspects of the issue, i.e. passive smoking, attitued towards it, role of media, social environment (attitued towards preventive measures, compliance with legislative norms), activities of producers and distributors and availability of information on cessation support.
