  • General and specialised therapeutic and preventive care for patients with diseases of the peripheral and central nervous systems, muscle disorders, and spinal conditions within the clinic’s catchment area
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic services for complex conditions that have not been successfully diagnosed or treated in lower-tier hospitals or outpatient facilities
  • Highly specialised diagnostic and therapeutic services provided nationally for selected neurological conditions in which the Neurology Clinic of the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine (Comenius University) and University Hospital Martin (UNM) has demonstrated outstanding expertise and experience
  • Theoretical and practical clinical training for medical students of the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University in Martin
  • Accredited specialist training in the field of neurology
  • Full-time and part-time doctoral studies (third level of university education) in the field of neurology (code 7.1.11)
  • Scientific research and expert evaluation activities in the field of neurology

Advanced Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures

  • Prion diseases (highest number of diagnosed cases in Slovakia; EEG, MRI, protein 14-3-3, E200K, codon 129)
  • Epilepsies (non-invasive video-EEG monitoring, referrals for epilepsy surgery consultation – NUSA Brno)
  • Cerebrovascular diseases (ultrasound, CTA, MRA, super-selective 4D DSA, HMPAO SPECT)
  • Neuromuscular disorders (quantitative EMG, single-fibre EMG)
  • Multiple sclerosis (MRI, ascending and descending evoked potentials, comprehensive CSF analysis, neuropsychological testing, OCT, selected genetic and immunological testing)
  • Systemic intravenous and local intra-arterial thrombolysis using rt-PA, sonothrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy
  • Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty with placement of stents – both extracranial and intracranial
  • Embolisation of aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and tumours
  • Advanced electrophysiological laboratory (EEG, evoked potentials, EMG)
  • Single, paired, and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)
  • Parkinson’s disease diagnostics (DATSCAN, IBZM SPECT)
  • Videonystagmography (VNG) and vestibular analysis
  • Polysomnography (PSG) and sleep laboratory
  • Testing of new diagnostic and treatment methods (grant projects and clinical trials)
