Norwegian Students Celebrate Constitution Day
On Saturday, May 17, together with our international students, we celebrated Norwegian Constitution Day.
For Norwegians, this is an important and beloved national holiday—an occasion when people gather in festive attire to celebrate their country’s birthday. Our students are a testament to this tradition, as they never miss the opportunity to celebrate, even while abroad.
Each year, they organize a special gathering in Martin, which is home to Slovakia’s largest community of Norwegian students—thanks to our faculty. Currently, around 300 students from Norway are studying at the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University in Martin.
May 17 marks Norway’s Independence Day, commemorating the signing of the Norwegian Constitution in 1814. Each year, Norwegians proudly celebrate their nation’s freedom and independence by wearing traditional folk costumes, waving flags, and decorating homes and streets with national colors. Festivities typically begin early in the morning with celebratory breakfasts and picnics, filled with joy and a strong sense of community.
