Nuclear Medicine – information for students

Undergraduate education – 7th semester in General Medicine program (winter semester)

Lecturer: MUDr. Hubert Poláček, jr., Ph.D.

Education form: lectures, practicals=seminars.

Lectures:
  1. Basic principles of Nuclear Medicine. Physical basics of modern tomographic imaging methods.
  2. Radiation safety. Nuclear cardiology.
  3. Nuclear Medicine procedures in oncology diagnostics. Radionuclide therapy. Less common Nuclear Medicine examinations.
Seminars/practicals:
  1. Nuclear Medicine introduction. Historical background, basic terms and principles. NM department tour.
  2. Bone scan=scintigraphy. Introduction to NM oncology diagnostics.
  3. NM oncology diagnostics part II. Thyroid cancer treatment.

Exam requirements:

100% attendance and active participation in all seminars and practicals is mandatory. Every student should attend just and only the seminars scheduled for his/her group. Absences due to illness must be confirmed by the medical certification. Public holidays, the Rector’s and the Dean’s day off are free days without obligation to compensate the teaching.

Computer multiple-choice exam test is held in special room (Hviezdoslavova 35) and consists of 20 randomly chosen questions from Nuclear Medicine. There are 4 options with 1 correct answer in every question. In approximately 50% of Nuclear Medicine questions digital images are also given to better explain the text or to test the basic image interpretation capabilities.

In case of Fx (< 60%) score, every student can repeat the test only twice.

Test dates are always given in Academic information system AIS-2 few days prior to official Exam period.
