In Martin, the day holds a special place for the Norwegian students studying at the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University, which is home to the largest community of Norwegians in the country.

Norwegian Constitution Day is the most significant holiday in Norway, even surpassing Christmas in its importance. Norwegians honor this day with vibrant celebrations, donning traditional costumes and waving flags, which are also a central part of the decor. The festivities begin early with ceremonial breakfasts and picnics where everyone gathers to enjoy and celebrate together.

"I really admire how our Norwegian students commemorate this day. It's evident that this is a people’s holiday; there are no political speeches or military parades, but rather it's all about the people, for the children, to remember their statehood and nationality. There is always a wonderful atmosphere that I love sharing with them," said Prof. Andrea Čalkovská, Dean of the faculty, during the celebrations.

Currently, approximately 300 Norwegian students are enrolled at the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine. Their presence not only enriches the faculty but also adds a unique character to the city itself. "We are delighted that the medical students from Norway have established themselves in our city and choose to celebrate their significant holidays such as Constitution Day here, showing that they feel comfortable and wish to commemorate their national events even while abroad," added Assoc. Prof. Martin Janík, PhD., Vice-Dean of JFMED CU responsible for educational activities in the general medicine program taught in English and international relations.
