History of the Department of Public Health JFM CU

Department of Public Health JFM CU has been established in 2005 merging together former Departments of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Social Medicine. This organization change refelcts modern understanding of this preventive scientific branch. The change has also a practical importance, because of need for effective coordination of teaching activities, particularly considering the Public Health study program (launched in 2004/2005 academic year). Prof. Henrieta Hudečková, M.D., PhD., MPH. has been the head of the Department since its origin.

The scientific work of the newly established Department is built on traditions and experiernces of the former departments and has developed a significant position in Slovakia and abroad. The Department closely cooperates with several important international institutions such us the European Centre for Disease Prevention or WHO Regional Office for Europe.
