Science and Technology Week at the Biomedical Centre Martin
On November 15, 2023, the Biomedical Centre Martin at Jessenius Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University, opened its doors to the public as part of the annual Science and Technology Week, drawing significant interest despite inclement weather.
The event commenced with a series of brief lectures detailing the research endeavors of various laboratories within the center. Enthusiasts were treated to a tour of some of the most advanced scientific equipment in the region. Highlights included one of the best microscopes available, showcased at the Laboratory of Microscopic Techniques.
Visitors had the opportunity to delve into the world of cells and cell cultures at the Laboratory of Flow Cytometry, Cell Phenotyping, and Tissue Engineering, as well as the Laboratory of Cell Cultures and Regenerative Medicine. These presentations offered an up-close view of cutting-edge biomedical research and its practical applications.
Another attraction was the experimental magnetic resonance instrument at the Laboratory of Metabolomics, where attendees witnessed real-time sample measurements. The Laboratory of Proteomics and Mitochondriopathies captivated visitors with unusual chemical experiments and a showcase of their extensive equipment.
The Laboratory of Functional Examinations for Cardiovascular, Nervous, and Respiratory Systems prepared practical demonstrations, including body composition analysis and cardiovascular signal measurements.
