Contract Signed for New Hospital Construction in Martin
On Wednesday, June 5, the University Hospital Martin signed a contract with the contractor for the construction of the new hospital.
The winning bidder of the public procurement was a consortium of suppliers, including ADIFEX a.s., HORNEX, a.s., DSC, a.s., and SYTIQ a.s., with a bid of 375 million EUR excluding VAT. The signing ceremony at the University Hospital Martin was attended by Slovakia's Minister of Health, Zuzana Dolinková, Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery Plan and Knowledge Economy, Alena Sábelová, and the Dean of Jessenius Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University, Professor Andrea Čalkovská.
The initial construction phase of the new hospital is scheduled to take 26 months, with a completion date of June 30, 2026. The final "full fit-out" phase, which includes equipping the hospital and obtaining the necessary approvals, is expected to be completed by the end of December 2028.
The University Hospital of St. Martin in Martin has faced numerous challenges since its inception. The Slovak government decided on July 1, 2022, to fund the construction of the new University Hospital of St. Martin using resources from the Recovery and Resilience Plan. The government initially allocated 330 million EUR excluding VAT for the project, which was later revised to 256.7 million EUR excluding VAT in 2023. The government has committed to covering any additional costs from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, EU funds, the Slovak state budget, or other alternative financing sources.
The new University Hospital of St. Martin will feature its own outpatient, diagnostic, and therapeutic departments, a separate pediatric wing, and an emergency department with a trauma center designed for both children and adults. The hospital will have 660 beds, mostly in single rooms, providing an ideal setting for modern healthcare delivery. The facility's unique design, advanced logistics, and sophisticated IT infrastructure, including smart solutions, will simplify and enhance the work of healthcare professionals and improve the patient experience.
The project is designed to have minimal environmental impact. Equipped with the latest technologies, the hospital will offer cutting-edge medical care to patients and provide optimal conditions for training future healthcare professionals, as it will serve as a teaching base for students of the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University.
