New Director Takes Charge at University Hospital Martin
The University Hospital Martin has welcomed a new director, MUDr. Peter Durný, PhD. MPH, appointed by the Slovak Minister of Health, Zuzana Dolinková, effective January 10, 2024. Dr. Durný, a graduate of the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Bratislava, is an experienced neurosurgeon and healthcare manager.
Dr. Durný's appointment marks a significant step in the hospital's development. He has an extensive background in surgery and neurosurgery and has held prominent positions at the Neurosurgical Clinic of the Central Military Hospital SNP Ružomberok since 2004. His tenure includes serving as the clinic's deputy head, head, and, since 2014, as the chief physician.
On January 11, the first day following his appointment, Dr. Durný met with the leadership of the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine, confirming the need for continued collaboration between the two institutions. "One of my priorities will be to support the development of University Hospital Martin as an innovative healthcare facility and a quality educational base for the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine. My goal is to closely integrate the clinical, academic, and research spaces, with a focus on mutual trust and cooperation, which ultimately reflects in patient comfort and satisfaction," stated Dr. Durný.
Additionally, Dr. Durný expressed his commitment to achieving a higher hospital classification as part of the national hospital network optimization.
Minister of Health Zuzana Dolinková, who officially introduced Dr. Durný to his new role, emphasized the ongoing project to construct the new University Hospital Saint Martin. "We are currently awaiting the results of the construction tender, expected by the end of January. By February 15, we need to finalize the land acquisition for the hospital, and we have been assured that construction will begin by March," said Dolinková.
