Norwegian students celebrated Constitution Day in Martin
Norwegian students at Jessenius Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Martin joined in their homeland's celebration of Constitution Day on May 17, paying tribute to the signing of the independent Norwegian Constitution in 1814.
In Norway, Constitution Day is a widely celebrated national holiday. Almost every citizen gets involved in the festivities, reminding themselves of their country's freedom and independence. Cities see grand parades; people dress in traditional national costume, the Bunad, and wave miniature flags. Celebrations kick off early in the morning with festive breakfasts and various picnics, lasting nearly the entire day.
Approximately 270 Norwegians are currently studying at the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Martin. Despite being far from their homeland, these students don't miss out on the traditional Constitution Day celebrations. To keep the spirit of the holiday alive, the Association of Norwegian Students Abroad (ANSA) organized a celebration this year in Martin. Faculty dean, Prof. Andrea Čalkovská, MD, DrSc, was among the attendees.
